Definition of Cocoon

A cocoon is a casing of silk spun by the larvae of insects to serve as their protection as they are nymphs, but it can also be a similar structure made by other animals. In science fiction, many alien species can also create a cocoon for the transition from childhood to adulthood or to stay in a stage of hibernation.
