Definition of Echidna


Echidna is, in Greek Mythology, a monster half woman, half snake. This creature with a woman's head and a reptilian body lives in a cave, it attracts passersby to eat them. The gods banned it. Its progeny have faded with horror: the dog Orthros and Cerberus, the Chimera and the Hydra, generated by Typhon; the dragon guarding the Golden Fleece and the Nemean lion, generated by Orthros, Geryon companion; Orcos, the guardian of the Underworld.
