Definition of Halloween

Halloween (also Hallowe'en) is the night of October 31, the eve of All Saints' Day, commonly celebrated by children who dress in costume and solicit candy or other treats door-to-door.
It is also kind of a tradition for the Hollywood studios to release their latest horror films at this date. The stories of these films often take place during that night (eg: Halloween by John Carpenter in 1978, or Night of the Demons by Kevin Tenney in 1988).
ORIGIN: late 18th century, contraction of All Hallow Even.
