Definition of Super Robot

Super Robot

Super Robot is a subgenre of science fiction whose origins are from Japan. All begin with the manga Tetsujin 28-go written and pencilled by Mitsuteru Yokoyama in 1956. He was the first to feature in his story a giant mecha (a giant robot piloted by a human) who was fighting against other giant mechas. Until 1972, all the giant robots were remote controlled but Go Nagai changed that habit with his manga Mazinger Z which were the first to be piloted from a cabin inside the head of the robot.
Other notable works including Super Robot that can be cited are; Giant Robo by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, UFO Robot Grendizer by Go Nagai or Space Sheriff Gavan by Saburo Hatte.
